I know there are lots of these on here, but this one is up-to-date and the easiest. It requires no computer at all to get started with Android OS on your supported iDevice. Yes, this is a work in progress, it's somewhat sluggish. Don't cry about it. Before you can do anything first, Bootlace runs a compatibility check at the first start up. If you don't pass that, your device is not compatible!
Requirements:
- iPhone 2G/3G or an iPod Touch 1G
- iDevice jailbroken with redsn0w, blackra1n, or Pwnagetool
- Firmware OS 3.1.2 -> 4.2.1
- Go into Cydia > Manage > Sources > Edit > Add
- Enter "http://repo.neonkoala.com
- Search for Bootlace
- Install it then go back to the home screen by pressing the home button and run it
- Click the OpeniBoot tab and install it
- Click the iDroid tab and install it (This takes a bit for the download)
- Click the QuickBoot tab and from there you can either boot into Android or Console
***When ever you restart your device you will come up to a screen that shows iOS, Console and Android. Move up and down with the power button and select with the home button. Only boot into console if you know what you are doing!***
Installing the Applanet Marketplace Alternative
Applanet is like Installous on Android.
- Just install the .apk by downloading it from a website such as MediaFire or RapidShare (Google provides links)
- Then put it in the /private/var/sdcard/downloads directory
- Make sure it has 777 permissions too.
- Boot into iDroid, and install it w/ File Manager.
***If other apps don't work, make sure their permissions are set to 777 as well.***
Tips
- You can download Multitouch AND WiFi firmware from the iDroid tab by clicking the "i" button at the top right
- There is another thing like this called iPhodroid, I advise you stay away. Constantly stealing and infringing the licensing of other contributors (Chronic Dev Team, Westbaer)
- Any future releases will be distributed by Bootlace, just check for updates in the iDroid tab
Troubleshooting
1. I successfully installed iDroid but when I reboot, the Apple logo appears and I am returned straight to iOS!
You most likely don't have OpeniBoot installed, go back to Bootlace and check to see if it is or not.
2. Does Bootlace support iPad, iPod Touch 2G/3G, iPhone 3GS/4?
No. But ports for iPad are being developed as we speak. As for iPod Touches, no comment.
3. "Kernelcache appears to be incorrectly patched. Please reinstall Bootlace." But reinstalling doesn't fix this!
Remove the file "var/mobile/Library/Preferences/be.dawson" then relaunch Bootlace.
