How To Prevent Your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch From Accidental iOS Updates

How  many times has it happened with you or with one of your friend, sister, girlfriend that they accidently updated their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the latest official firmware from Apple and lost the jailbreak or unlock.
I am sure many of us have seen this thing happening to someone or the other. Updating your iPhone, in most cases, also upgrades your baseband.
This new baseband is not always unlockable via ultrasn0w as soon as it comes out and the new iOS also takes sometime to be jailbroken.
It is therefore recommended that you stick with your current iOS version until the developers come up with a stable release of jailbreak and unlock tools. RecoveryGuard is just another step in achieving that.
Now, when you connect your iPhone to your PC in order to sync with iTunes, you are prompted about updating your iPhone to the latest firmware.
RecoveryGuard not only fools iTunes into thinking that you have the latest iOS version on your device, but, it also forbids iTunes to put your iDevice into recovery mode.
If you want to update your iPhone, simply do it by putting your device into DFU mode.
Follow the tutorial below to learn how to install RecoveryGuard on your iPhone and stay safe from accidental firmware upgrades.
Step 1.
Open Cydia from the Springboard. (If Cydia on your iPhone is painfully slow, take a look at our post on How to speed up Cydia on your iPhone or iPod touch.)
Step 2.
On the bottom bar, tap on Manage and then press Sources. Refer to the screenshots for better understanding.

Tap on Edit and then tap on Add where you would be asked to enter the URL of the source.

Step 4.
Type the following repository in the required field.
http://cydia.pushfix.info
Make sure that you enter it as it is without skipping a letter.
Step 5.
After you are done typing, tap on Add Source and then press Done.
Step 6.
Cydia will now update the sources to incorporate the recent repository you added.

Step 7.
After the installation is complete, search for RecoveryGuard in the new repo you just added.

Step 8.
Tap on Install and confirm the installation. RecoveryGuard BETA would then be installed on your device.
This tweak is highly recommended for all those people who have jailbroken and unlocked their iDevices. One stupid restore and it might result in weeks of waiting time before jailbreak or unlock for the latest iOS version comes out.
